Brain Injury Law Group Plans Bike Safety Program for Lowcountry Riders

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - Fact: In South Carolina in 2002, 163 children 14 and under suffered traumatic brain injuries caused by bicycle accidents. Health experts estimate that wearing a bicycle helmet could have prevented more than 80% of these injuries.

In an effort to improve those stats, the Brain Injury Law Group of South Carolina is holding a bike helmet safety program on Saturday, September 18th. "Use Your Head-Wear a Helmet" will run from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Wal-Mart Super Center, at 7400 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston. The program is designed to inform children and parents about the importance of bike safety, and to help prevent traumatic brain injuries that occur during common accidents.

The program is a partnership with the Trident Safe Kids Campaign, the North Charleston Wal-Mart Super Center, and the South Carolina Low Country Think First Program.

During the day, families can register for a raffle to win a bike and a helmet donated by Wal-Mart. Planned events include a bike rodeo, bike checks by the Explorer Scouts, hand signal instructions from Think First, and more. The Brain Injury Law Group is a collaboration between Rosen, Rosen & Hagood and the Steinberg Law Firm and represents seasoned legal experience focused on the complicated cases that arise from brain injuries.
